CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Kanawha County sheriff's deputies could be getting new sidearms for the first time in about a decade.

Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper said he'll ask fellow commissioners to put the spending request for new pistols before the next meeting of the commission.

The purchase is expected total about $60,000 and will go out to bid.

Sheriff Mike Rutherford told The Charleston Gazette he's been looking to replace the Glock and Sig Sauer sidearms for the past two years, but didn't have the money in the budget.
