ROANOKE, VA. (WSAZ) -- Kroger is asking customers to check their refrigerators for packages of 10 ounce, Kroger Fresh Selections Tender Spinach with a “best if used by” date of September 16.
The product, supplied by NewStar Fresh Foods, is being recalled because the product may contain Listeria monocytogenes.
Customers should return the items to stores for a full refund or a replacement.
The product was sold in Kroger stores in West Virginia, Ohio Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina and the eastern portions of Tennessee.
Listeria monocytogenes, if eaten, could result in severe illness to those individuals who are pregnant or have a weakened immune system.
According to a press release, Kroger has already removed affected items from store shelves and initiated its customer recall notification system. Customers who may have purchased the affected products will receive register receipt messages and/or automated phone calls.
