Man Accused of Beating His Wife, Threatening Friend with Knife

CROSS LANES, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man accused of beating his wife and threatening her friend with a knife is behind bars.

Deputies tell they responded to a motel on New Goff Mountain Road about 10 p.m. Friday after a caller claimed a man was being chased with a knife.

Deputies spoke to the alleged victim who told them her husband, Raleigh K. Sorden II, 42, came to her motel room and began to hit her in the mouth and kick her, according to the criminal complaint.

A friend of the victim tried to stop the beating, but was pushed out of the room by Sorden, deputies say. Sorden then pulled a six inch knife and threatened to gut the victim's friend, according the criminal complaint.

Investigators found injuries consistent with a beating and they found a knife in Sorden's car.

Sorden is facing several charges including domestic battery and brandishing a dangerous weapon.
