Man Arrested in Connection with Two Charleston Robberies

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An accused runaway robber is now behind bars.

Police arrested Kerry Smith, 54, for forcibly trying to take money from two businesses.

According to the criminal complaints, his first stop was a Family Dollar in the East Shopping Plaza. That's where he got into a fight with the cashier and a customer when trying to steal money from the register drawer.

Smith then went to the Sweet Spoon, a frozen yogurt shop on Washington Street East. The cashier there got a got look at him and then ran into the back of the store.

Saturday morning, she identified Smith during a photo line up with police.

Smith has been charged with 2nd degree robbery.
