KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man pleaded guilty Friday to the fatal stabbing of a woman at her St. Albans home in January.

Timothy Shafer was accused of stabbing Nancy Lynch to death. He became emotional as he addressed her family in court.

"I didn't intend for Nancy to get hurt and I'm sorry you lost her," Shafer told the family.

Shafer had been scheduled to go to trial next week.

Investigators said Shafer and another woman went to Lynch's home. When she told the pair she didn't have any money, they stabbed her and stole her jewelry.

Shafer spoke Friday about what he said happened that day.

"When I turned back around, she was stabbing Nancy Lynch in the side, and then Nancy had fell to the couch and Jessica got on top of her and was stabbing her in the neck area."

Shafer is set to be sentenced Aug. 22.
