KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The man at the center of a brutal robbery and kidnapping in Kanawha County may never be a free man again.
Joey Jeffrey was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison, with the eligibility of parole in 24 years.
Jeffrey was found guilty in February of putting a knife to a woman's throat on Witcher Creek in December 2012.
He then forced her into his truck, brutally beat her, then robbed her.
During his sentencing hearing in Kanawha County Wednesday, Jeffrey spoke out for the first time, blaming the crime on his drug addiction.
Another woman, Cindy Creathers, also admitting to taking part in the violent crime and is serving a five-year prison sentence.
She pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery. She was dating Jeffrey at the time of the robbery and kidnapping. Creathers says she took part out of fear for her safety.
She has said that Jeffrey told her if she didn't help him, she would end up like Melanie Metheny, a woman who dropped her kids off at daycare in belle in July 2006, then disappeared.
No suspects have been named in Metheny's case.
WSAZ spoke with the Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office Wednesday. Prosecutor Mark Plants says the Sheriff's Office is looking into the information from Creathers, to see if they can find any evidence to the claims that Jeffrey may have been have been involved in Metheny's disappearance.
