CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that happened in Charleston in June.

For five months, Steven Thompson, who police called armed and dangerous, was on the run. He told WSAZ.com exclusively after his arrest, "I didn't shoot anybody."

Police say, that's not the case.

"We've been looking for Steven Thompson since shortly after the incident took place," Charleston Police Lt. Steve Cooper said.

Cooper explained that the violence happened in June on Charleston's West Side. Police say Thompson robbed, shot, and kidnapped Ollie Nicholson.

"I never held anybody against their will, kidnapped shot or anything. You check my record. I never got in trouble a day in my life, never been arrested. I've been a good kid, a good citizen. This will get straightened out, though," Thompson said.

A tip led police to him on Wednesday morning. They say he did his best to hide.

"When we caught him, he had taken a blanket from a small child in the house and was trying to hide under that," Cooper said.

Thompson claims he's innocent and doesn't know anything about a shooting.

"Obviously there was a shooting because they say he got shot, but I just know I didn't shoot anybody," he said. "It's just a messed up predicament. Hopefully, God willing, they find out what's going on and I get out of this."

Thompson is charged with malicious wounding, robbery, and kidnapping.
