UPDATE 8/10/12 @ 12:20 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Phone and internet service has been restored in parts of Kanawha County.
Service was cut to more than three thousand customers on Wednesday when construction crews cut through a line at the corner of Spring and Bullitt streets in Charleston.
Frontier officials say crews are still working on the line, but they have been able to get service restored.
Frontier officials tell WSAZ.com a major line was intentionally cut sending crews scrambling to get service restored.
Hundreds of small, fiber optic wires are getting spliced together and expected to take several hours.
Crews are working through the night in hopes of getting all service restored by Friday morning.
An estimated 3,000 people are affected in Charleston near Bigley Avenue and the Mink Shoals area of Kanawha County.
A contractor working at the site of the future Water Development Authority intentionally cut two major lines. That's at the corner of spring and bullitt streets.
The contractor tells WSAZ.com, it was all a misunderstanding because they thought the lines were dead or damaged.
Frontier says it's working around the clock to get things fixed.
"This is one of our major lines that runs through town, there's actually four underground over here and two of them were hit," Frontier General Manager Dennis Bloss said. "It's a large cable so you had to go locate the cable and you had to prepare the site to put the new cable in and that's what we've done throughout the night. And the actual customers are just now starting to come back in service as we reconnect their lines."
Both Frontier and the property owner have been at odds over the years. Construction workers say they've even been in legal battles over who should pay for relocating lines.
Contractors say they've been told it's estimated to cost six figures to fix this mistake.

It could be as long as 48 to 72 hours before customers’ service is restored, Frontier Communications General Manager Dennis Bloss said.
The outages extend from Bigley Avenue to the Mink Shoals area.
Bloss said the contractor is working on a project unrelated to Frontier.
“We always expect contractors to be cautious and follow established guidelines when they are involved in excavation,” Bloss said. “This is an unfortunate example of what can happen when someone cuts our cables.”
