UPDATE 3/25/14 @ 7:15 p.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two arrests have been made in connection with a shooting that police say appears to be in retaliation to two other shootings -- all within a 24-hour time span.

Justin Davis and Eric Adams are being charged in connection with the shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon.

Police say about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday they started receiving calls from the city's West Side about a house hit by gunfire, and two cars chasing each other, and shots being fired.

This all happened in the Hazelwood Avenue area. There were children outside at the time. One witness says he was picking his children up when he saw the whole incident.

"We were picking up kids and rushing inside. When the shooting stopped I ran outside and chased one of the trucks down the street," Michael Jones, a witness, said. "I ran into police at the corner and pointed the officers and told them that was the car, and they took off and, I guess, that is the only reason they caught up with him."

Police tracked down one of the suspect's vehicle, a silver Mitsubishi, on 2nd Avenue -- just a couple of blocks from West Side Elementary, which went into temporary lockdown.

"When there's a neighborhood that's populated like that and where there's a school, and the criminals showing a complete lack of concern for the safety of children and any other innocent bystanders; that's why we're really glad we got these guys in custody and that nobody was hurt," Charleston Police Lt. Steve Cooper said.

Police are still searching for a third person in connection with Tuesday's shooting, but do not yet have an identity.

Detectives say this shooting is related to two other shootings that happened late Monday night.

They say a car was shot up on West Avenue. That car belonged to Davis's mother.

Davis is also a cousin to one of two victims who were shot at a housing complex along Washington Street West.

Davis's cousin, Andre Lee, was shot in the back of his shoulder. Police didn't find him until Tuesday morning. He was then taken to the hospital.

Another bullet grazed the head of a second victim, Micah Crawford. He was also found Tuesday morning, but refused medical treatment.

Detectives are searching for a person of interest in connection with Monday night's shooting. They say they want to question Levi Carter. If you know where he is, you can anonymously call the Charleston Police Department at (304) 348-6480.

As for Tuesday's shootings, Davis and Adams are being charged with wanton endangerment involving a firearm.
