NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The strong smell of gas in the 800 block of Rt 25 in Nitro had residents concerned that there might be a gas leak in the area, Friday morning.

Mountaineer Gas along with the Nitro Police and Fire Departments searched the area too, but could not find a leak.

According to a worker with Mountaineer Gas they suspect a truck carrying the chemical Mercaptan, a chemical used to give natural gas an odor, spilled on the road.

Mountaineer Gas is expected to release more information Friday afternoon about their official finding.
