New Businesses Set to Open in Charleston

Updated: Thu 4:46 PM, Aug 02, 2012

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Summer is slowly coming to an end, but that's not affecting construction in the City of Charleston.

Several new projects are expected to get underway.

According to city records, a Mexican restaurant will soon open in the former Suzi's location along 7th Avenue in North Charleston. Suzi's closed last August.

The owner of Los Amigos Restaurant has filed for a building permit to renovate the building at 2911 7th Avenue. No word on when the restaurant will open to the public.

Meanwhile, renovations are expected to get underway on the Pizza Hut at Patrick Street in Charleston. The manager tells WSAZ.com the building will be renovated.

According to city records, more than $400,000 worth of renovations will be done at the site.

This location is for delivery and carry out only.

Plans to build a Family Dollar store on the east end of Charleston are moving forward.

According to the building permit, the retail store will be built at 731 Bigley Avenue. That's the property where Central United Methodist Church once stood. The church was torn down in May.

The church closed in 2008 because of a declining membership.

According to city records, the former Murads' building at 200 35th Street in Kanawha City will soon become Lisa 200, a video lottery parlor. Mimi's Inc is the owner.

Construction on a new hotel in downtown Charleston could get underway by January.

Marriott Courtyard has applied for its city permits for its new five-story hotel along the Kanawha Boulevard.

Meanwhile, a former elementary school on Charleston's west side will soon serve as an apartment building.

Building permits are on file to start the $3,450,000 construction project.

The apartments will serve as elderly independent living apartments. The building will be renovated in to 31 units.

Chris Sadd and Elizabeth Lee Properties bought the school at an auction for $50,000 to building the apartments.
