New W.Va. State Board of Education Superintendent Expected Soon

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The search for a new West Virginia State Board of Education superintendent may be coming to an end.

According to a news release from the State Board of Education, members expect that Dr. Michael Martirano will be nominated and elected as the new superintendent on July 1.

He is currently serving in his ninth year as the superintendent of St. Mary's County Public Schools in Maryland.

He's also currently the longest serving superintendent in Maryland. The board hopes to make it official on July 9.
