KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- JROTC students in Kanawha County will no longer be required to take phys ed.

Kanawha County School Board members on Monday night approved the proposed wavier for physical education credits, meaning JROTC students will now get full credit for gym without taking the class.

Teachers say this is fair because students in the program do double what regular gym students do. They say waiving the requirement will help them pursue other goals.

JROTC instructors say they plan on requesting another waiver soon. They hope to give students civic credit for being in the program, as well.
