UPDATE 7/18/12 @ 9 a.m.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A portion of Coonskin Park in Charleston remains closed after the June 29 storm.
The park was closed due to downed trees and damage to the park. Several people were trapped during that storm, but they were all rescued. No injuries reported.
Since then, the lower portion of the park, including the pool, golf course and shelters were reopened. However, the shelters in the upper section of the park remain closed as of July 18.
During the Kanawha County Park and Recreation Commission meeting Wednesday the board was updated on the clean up process.
Director Jeff Hutchinson tells WSAZ.com crews haven't done anything to the upper section, but clear the road. He says his employees are not qualified to climb trees and top them.
The county got an estimate that the work would cost $5,200 a day to hire someone to do the work. The work would take about 30 days to complete. The park board believes it will take another 30 days to clear the trails.
Hutchinson expects the clean up to exceed $300,000.
The board is waiting to see if any money will come from FEMA.
Several people were trapped during Friday's storm at the park, but they were all rescued. No injuries reported.
