Public Input Sought before W.Va. DNR Overhauls Hunting and Fishing Regulations

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It's open season at the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR), but the agency is only trying to hunt down public opinion.

"The first major operational plan was done in 1979," says Chris Ryan with the DNR. "This is the first time it's been a major, major overhaul since that time."

Some highlights of the proposed changes to hunting white-tail deer
include:

An additional three days for doe season with guns, starting in October.
Five additional days to archery season, with a Monday open.
In some counties, hunters would be required to bag a doe before killing a second buck.
