HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- "Once upon a time..." those are the words children love to hear because it means story time.
Students at Peyton Elementary are hearing a lot of stories as 140 readers are opening books and reading individually to all 170 of the school's students.
It's Read to Me Day and the school and the goal is to open the minds of students to reading but also make every child feel special because they have their own individual reader according to Marion Ward, Principal at Peyton Elementary.
Ward says teaching children isn't about individual acts but rather a journey.
"The educational process requires so many different elements and to have someone come in and read to you, to make reading enjoyable and fun, this all helps in the educational process" Ward said.
Read to Me Day is part of the school's International Education Week and the staff dressed up as storybook characters to make the event more memorable for the children.
