HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- As residents try to keep cool during their third down in sweltering heat without power, ice has become scarce across the tri-state.
After trips to several local gas stations and convenience stores, WSAZ crews finally found an ice delivery man in Huntington.
He said the ice plant in Milton, West Virginia, which supplies ice to many businesses in the area, is still without power. They are shipping in ice from plants in Pittsburgh and Tennessee.
The delivery man also tells WSAZ.com that the inventory in Milton is in jeopardy because their freezers up to 40 degrees.
The local ice delivery drivers have abandoned their regular delivery routes and are simply unloading their trucks as quickly as possible at the stores.
He said customers are fighting over ice and offering up to $75 a bag.
