UPDATE 4/20/14 @ 8:52 p.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Bryan Crosier knows the trails off four mile road in Kanawha County like the back of his hand.
He's seen almost every inch from weekly rides with his dad.
However, nothing could prepare him for Saturday's discovery.
"I was just looking around in all the cracks and crevasses and everything; see a pair of jeans that kinda strikes me as being odd," Crosier said.
Those jeans belonged to a body wedged in the crevasse, or what was left of one. No shirt, no shoes, just skeleton.
"It was pretty decomposed," said Crosier. "They told me it had been there probably about nine to 12 months."
Crosier immediately called out to his father, a Captain with the Kanawha County Sheriffs Department, who then triggered an investigation.
While little is known about the body yet, the area is known well by neighbors.
"A lot of people ride their four-wheelers or side-by-sides through here," said Randy Burdette.
However, one thing you won't see is what makes this suspicious.
"It's not like an area where people just walk," said Burdette.
That combined with how a body could have gotten between the boulders is an eerie thought for those who have come up here to get away.
"We think of this place as our sanctuary," said Catherine Brunschwyler.
Now, they're waiting for answers to the secrets in the stones.
Deputies say a body has been found in the woods near Coopers Creek near Elkview.
It was spotted by a man driving a four-wheeler on a hill off 4 Mile Road.
The remains are very decomposed.
Investigators are collecting evidence.
They have not released whether the remains are that of a male or female.
The cause of death is under investigation.
The terrain is making the investigation more difficult.
"With off-road vehicles you can get close to some things but just the way that the terrain is laid out it's sometimes difficult to get direct access to something without additional help. Some extra people and sometimes some extra equipment," said Corporal Brian Humphreys with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.
