KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A gas station robbery in Jefferson Friday night is prompting a warning for those who work with large amounts of cash.
“This time of year around the holidays, people are looking for easy money,” Sgt. K.M. Gilley with the West Virginia State Police said.
Friday night, about 7:30, troopers say a suspect robbed the Rich Oil gas station on MacCorkle Avenue in Jefferson.
Surveillance video shows the hooded suspect sneak into the store when a cashier briefly went out another exit.
The suspect then quickly stole all of the cash from the register and left the store before anyone noticed.
“It was only when the cashier tried to ring somebody else up for gas that he realized all the money was gone,” Gilley said.
As of Sunday evening, troopers have not yet identified the suspect in the video and are not saying how much was stolen but say those who work with large amounts of cash should be on guard.
“Be more vigilant, pay attention to their surroundings, pay attention to who's around and not leave things unattended,” Gilley warned.
State Police are asking anyone with information about Friday’s robbery or the identity of the suspect to call the South Charleston detachment at 304-558-7777.
