UPDATE 7/26/13 @ 12:43 a.m.
CEDAR GROVE, W. Va. (WSAZ) -- Route 60 is open to traffic after being shutdown most of the day because of a rock slide.

It happened just after 10 a.m. but now all lanes of Route 60 have re-opened.

UPDATE 7/25/13 @ 7 p.m.
CEDAR GROVE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It could be after 8 p.m. before a rock slide is cleared on U.S. Rt. 60 near Cedar Grove.

For most folks, scenes like that slide are kind of shocking. But not for Lawrence Coleman.

“We're kinda used to it,” Coleman said.

After weeks of rainy weather, the rocks hanging onto the hill over route 60 near Cedar Grove finally slid off the hill Thursday morning… blocking traffic and shutting down the road. Lawrence says it happens all the time.

“It's constant,” Coleman said. “Every time it rains during this time of year, usually some rocks slide over. And winter time when it freezes and thaws, it comes over.”

It's not just Cedar Grove that's dealing with a mess like this. On Route 10 between Logan and Man, a mud and rock slide has shut down the road for weeks, if not months. Just today, the department of highways had another slide in Marshall County in the northern panhandle.

“It's just one instance of what it's like to live in West Virginia,” Brent Walker with the Department of Highways said. “No surprise. We have slips and slides all over the state.”

The DOH says much of the problem is the rainy weather we've had all summer. With most parts of the state getting rain 19 of the last 21 days, slips are bound to happen. But, highway officials say drivers don't need to worry.

“The roads are safe,” Walker said. “I mean, when you live in West Virginia and you cut roads out of hillsides, you know, that's what you have. You're going to have some debris.”

Lawrence says, Thursday's slide isn't even the worst he's seen.

“There was a rock come of off there that'd make this one there look small.”

He's just glad to see it cleaned up.

UPDATE 7/25/13 @ 1:20 p.m.
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It will be several more hours before Route 60 in Cedar Grove will reopen to traffic after a rock slide.

The slide was reported just after 10 a.m. Thursday near Go-Mart.

Crews with the Division of Highways are on scene now breaking up the large rocks and removing them from the road.

Crews say this afternoon they had to quickly clear a portion of the road to get an ambulance through that was transporting a heart attack patient.

The road slide did damage the westbound lane.

Route 60 remains closed. Traffic is being turned around in both directions.

Right now, crews estimate that the road will be closed until at least 6 p.m. tonight.
