KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Icy conditions and crashes caused a portion of I-64 West to be shut down Saturday night.
911 Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com that section has now been reopened.
All traffic is now moving smoothly between Institute and Nitro.
Deputies tell WSAZ.com, the eastbound lanes are closed between Institute and Nitro.
All traffic is being diverted off the interstate at Institute.
A detour has been set up on Route 25, where traffic is being allowed back on the interstate at Nitro.
Deputies say the road is a solid sheet of ice and several accidents have blocked the lanes.
DOH crews are on the scene salting the road.
Dispatchers in Kanawha County tell WSAZ.com, more than 40 accidents have been reported since about 9:00 p.m. Saturday.
Emergency officials are urging drivers to stay off the roads if at all possible.

Metro 911 says drivers should avoid road travel, if possible, or use extreme caution.
I-64 has had a slew of car crashes and reports of cars pulling off the side of the road because of icy conditions.
