CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A teenager pleaded guilty to charges related to a crash in Kanawha County where a Riverside High School student was killed.
Dustin Burkhardt pleaded guilty Monday to a misdemeanor charge of DUI causing death. He was originally charged with a felony in the case.
The incident happened last July.
Prosecutors say Burkhardt had a blood alcohol level of .08 when he was driving down Hughes Creek Road, lost control and flipped his vehicle.
One of his passengers, Colin Qualls, died in the crash.
Prosecutors say Burkhardt tried to help Qualls, but it was too late. Three other people in the vehicle were hurt, but they survived.
Qualls' family agreed to Monday's plea agreement.
Burkhardt faces 90 days to a year in jail. Prosecutors are recommending 90 days in jail when he is sentenced on July 17.
