UPDATE 7/26/14 @ 6:12 p.m.>
BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Cody Emeott's morning started with a sight he's never seen before, and one he never wants to see again.
"I even got markings on the bottom of my feet from where I was stepping on glass," said Emeott.
This mangled mess is what Emeott stumbled upon; metal twisted and turned from being tossed in the air.
"There was a guy laying there," said Emeott. "Well, as soon as I seen that man, I turned around and I screamed and yelled, 'someone call 911.'"
Tread marks show just where the accident started. The Boone County Sheriff's Department says Curtis Kelley and Eddie Javins were headed south out of Madison on Route 17. They were going too fast and lost control.
Their vehicle flipped several times, eventually crashing into these trees. Both Kelley and Javins didn't survive.
Saturday afternoon, Kelley's wife and close friend surveyed the damage for the first time.
"It's just devastating," said Jeremy Ball. "Life's short. It's just devastating."
Ball now must rely on memories of the good times, as family and friend lean on each other.
"That's all you can do is stick together at a time like this and hope for the best," said Ball.
An all-too-common problem, that sadly turned tragic along Route 17.
"They think that they can handle the curve and they get there, and there's trouble," said Emeott.
