KANAWHA CITY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Betty Jarvis walks the streets of Kanawha City on a regular basis.

However, Saturday she stumbled on something startling, police tape around her friend's home.

"Any time you walked down this alley and he was out here he would chat with you," remember Jarvis. "He was so friendly."

Late Friday night, George Molle Jr., 90, was found dead inside this home along Maccorkle avenue after a neighbor called police.

Initially, police thought he passed from a medical condition, but further examination turned this into a homicide investigation.

"It's a highly populated area, very uncommon for there to be this type of crime there," said Lieutenant Steve Cooper, a Charleston Police Detective.

Police remain tight-lipped about a motive and a cause of death hoping to keep the evidence's value intact.

"Right now there's only information that the police and suspect know and we have to keep it that way," said Lieutenant Cooper.

As a community waits for answers, those who live in it remain shaken.

"If they would harm some gentle old man like that," said Jarvis, "who's to say I'm safe?"
