UPDATE: St. Albans Shooting Suspect in Jail; Victim Still in Hospital

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A fight over a stolen gun ended with one man getting shot numerous times.

Now, the man accused of pulling the trigger is in jail. Police say he ran from the scene, but it didn't take long for officers to catch him.

The shooting happened about 4 a.m at an apartment in St. Albans.

Terrence Blanks, 22, the suspect, was pulled over in Dunbar for something else. That officer knew St. Albans police were looking for him.

Police say Blanks and another man, Jerome James III, 24, got into a fight outside the apartment.

Blanks had been accused of stealing James' gun, which led to a fight between the two men.

Police say James went inside the apartment, and they say Blanks started banging on the door.

“It started in the parking lot. Mr. James retreated to the apartment and was shot through a window,” St. Albans Police Chief Michael Matthews said.

Matthews says James was shot several times.

It was a disturbing wake-up call for the whole neighborhood.

“We saw a car drive off real quick,” Brent Salmons, a neighbor, said. “The next thing you know, cops are showing up. We were checking on the kids, making sure nothing came through the walls. It was a scary feeling actually.”

James has gone through surgery. He remains in the hospital where he is listed as under evaluation.

Blanks has been charged with malicious wounding and wanton endangerment. He is in the South Central Regional Jail; his bond was set at $150,000 cash.

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Police say an early morning shooting at an apartment started as a fight over a stolen gun.

Terrence Blanks has been arrested and is being charged with malicious wounding.

St. Albans Police say Blanks got into a fight with Jarome James III outside an apartment on Kanawha Court. Police say Blanks is accused of stealing James' gun.

James went inside the apartment and police say Blanks started pounding on the door. When the people inside told him to leave, police say Blanks started shooting through a window.

James was shot several times and taken to the hospital where he is in surgery.

Police found the gun a short distance away on Washington Avenue and Blanks' car on Spring Hill Mountain. He will be arraigned in magistrate court within the next hour.

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man has been charged in an early morning shooting in St. Albans.

The shooting was reported about 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Kanawha Court.

Investigators tell WSAZ.com the victim was inside his apartment and the gun shots came through a window. The man was shot four or five times, according to St. Albans Police.

Police say the man is in stable condition, but right now he is in surgery.

Police spent the morning questioning a person of interest in the case and just before 9 a.m. the man was arrested. Investigators tell WSAZ.com the man will be arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court late Tuesday morning. His name has not been released at this time.

As of 9 a.m., police were still on the scene of the shooting.

No other details are being released at this time.

The shooting was reported about 4 a.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of Kanawha Court.

Investigators tell WSAZ.com the man was inside his apartment and the gun shots came through a window. The man was shot four or five times, according to St. Albans Police.

Police say the man is in stable condition, but right now he is in surgery.

As of 7:20 a.m., police were still on the scene investigating the shooting.

Police say they have a person of interest in the case, but no arrests have been made.

The shooting happened just after 4 Tuesday morning in the 500 block of Kanawha Ct. in Saint Albans.
