MONTGOMERY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A West Virginia University Tech student brought home top honors from a national competition.
W. Blake Engles took home third place in the American Society for Engineering Education conference at the University of Bridgeport (Connecticut) earlier this month.
Engles' paper focused on Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion or OTEC.
In a news release Engles explained, "OTEC is a renewable energy source that does not involve the use of fossil fuels. Essentially, it works by employing an ocean's natural thermal reservoir to produce work."
Some 230 research papers were submitted to the conference. Of the 13 submitted by Tech students, two received nominations, including Engles'. He is a junior at Tech.
