CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- A West Virginia legislator is setting her sights on Congress.

Delegate Meshea Poore announced Tuesday that she's running to represent the 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House.

The Kanawha County Democrat has served in West Virginia's House of Delegates since 2009. A 37-year-old lawyer, Moore holds several committee assignments and is House chair of the Rule-Making Review Committee.

The 2014 election will decide a successor to U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, a Republican who plans to run for U.S. Senate instead next year. Other Democrats running for Capito's seat include former party chairman Nick Casey and Jefferson County Democrat Matthew Dunn. Each has filed both with the Secretary of State's office and the Federal Election Commission. Former Maryland GOP politician Alexander Mooney has also filed to run.
