CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The West Virginia State Firemen's Association got quite a financial boost on Monday.
The West Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association presented the agency with a check totaling $15,537.62. The money was raised during a statewide fundraising drive last year.
The funds will help volunteer fire departments across the state pay for training and equipment needs.
“Many local fire departments are facing a crisis,” said Jim Oldaker, president, West Virginia State Firemen’s Association. “Lack of funding and increased costs have caused some fire departments to cut back services and others to actually close. This contribution will help many of our local fire departments.”
