Water Sustainability Institute Coming to W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Charleston Area Alliance and the Regional Chamber of Commerce are partnering with several local organizations to create a Water Sustainability Institute.

The Water Sustainability Institute will be located at the Regional Technology Park. Its main goal will be to maintain and protect all of West Virginia's water.

It would create and commercialize new technologies to reduce hazards to West Virginia's water sources by bringing some of the world's water experts to West Virginia to work on those water issues.

The technologies can range anywhere from filtration systems to safeguards at chemical plants.

The Charleston Area Alliance and the Chemical Alliance Zone are just a couple of the organizations moving the plan forward.

It will also bring new jobs. Positions will be created with those new products and studies, and they can even reach outside of West Virginia.

"It will definitely create new jobs as new technologies are sent to manufacturing," Charleston Area Alliance President Matt Ballard said.

Plans for the Institute are still in its very early stages. Officials say they're still ironing out a lot of details like funding or resources, but it's something they say it's something West Virginia desperately needs.
