Weekend 5k Fun Run/Walk Aimed at Helping Children with Cancer

MARMET, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A 5k this weekend is aimed at lending a helping hand to two families from the Kanwaha Valley facing some enormous health struggles.

Makayla Clark was born with Down Syndrome. Two years later she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She beat the cancer. In 2012 She had a kidney transplant. However later that Fall she was diagnosed with Post Transplant Lympho-Proliferative Disease in her neck. Just a few months later she lost her father.

Alecia Oldham was living life like a normal teenager until it was discovered that she had a brain tumor that tested positive for Medulloblastoma. Her chemotherapy is working but it is tough on her body.

While you help these girls win their battles against cancer you will also be entered to win some great prizes.

The top three finishers in all categories will receive prizes.

The Marmet 5k Fun Run/Walk is on June 14th at 8 a.m. At the George Buckley Rec Center. The address is 8505 Maccorkle Ave SE in Marmet.
