SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman accused of attacking a store manager while attempting to shoplift has been arrested.

The robbery happened at Marshalls Department Store on Sunday, November 24th.

South Charleston Police say Shadonna Collins, 25, was trying to steal a shopping cart full of merchandise when the store manager tried to stop her.

Police say Collins hit and kicked the manager until she fell to the ground. That violence bumped Collins' crime from shoplifting to a robbery.

While Collins initially got away, witness reports as well as security video identified her.

Collins had two accomplices with her in the store. Police are in the process of apprehending those individuals.

Collins was arrested early Saturday morning. She is being charged with aggravated robbery and is in the South Central Regional Jail on a $20,000 bond.

South Charleston Patrolman Travis Bailes says this time of year, shoplifting is far too common.

"This time of year, shopliftings, they always increase. Starting from around november all the way through January," said Bailes.
