SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman was arrested Wednesday after police say she allegedly left her child in her car while she was inside a store shoplifting.
Brittany Stumbo is charged with child neglect and shoplifting charges.
According to the criminal complaint, South Charleston Police received a call that a child had been left unattended in a car in the parking lot of the Walmart at South Ridge.
When they arrived, a 6-month-old child was found in a car seat covered with a blanket.
Police said Brittany Stumbo walked up to the car and told police she left her child in the car for a short time and left it running to keep the child safe.
The criminal complaint said police got permission from Stumbo to search the car and found four stolen items from Walmart.
After looking through security footage, police found that Stumbo left her child in her car for almost half an hour.
