UPDATE: Friends Celebrate Life of U.C. Student Hit and Killed in Elkview

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Friends and classmates of a young woman killed in a tragic accident united Wednesday night to celebrate her life.

On Monday morning, Ashli Whitehair was hit and killed by a truck on Frame Road in Elkview. She was crossing the street when it happened.

Whitehair, 21, was a junior at the University of Charleston.

Friends said she was a wonderful person who will be missed.

"She just genuinely wanted to help people," said her friend Doriel Beavers. "She just didn't care who you were, if you were a person who reached out to her she would reach back out to you."

Visitation for Whitehair will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elkview Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday.

ELKVIEW, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Friends and classmates of a young girl killed in a tragic accident will come together Wednesday evening to remember her life.

Ashli Whitehair was hit and killed by a truck on Frame Road in Elkview Monday morning.

She was crossing the street when the accident happened.

Whitehair was just 21 years old and a junior at the University of Charleston.

A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. in Riggleman Hall at UC.

A visitation for Whitehair is scheduled for Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elkview Baptist Church.

Her funeral is set for Friday at 11 a.m.

No word if charges are being filed in the case.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A memorial service is scheduled Wednesday for a University of Charleston student who died Monday after she was hit by a truck.

The service for Ashli Whitehair will begin at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in Riggleman Hall’s Kennan Music Room. It is located on the first floor below the auditorium.

Whitehair, 21, of Elkview, W.Va., was struck and killed by a truck on Monday morning while crossing Frame Road in Elkview.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A college student at the University of Charleston was killed in an accident Monday morning.

Ashli Whitehair was crossing Frame Road in Elkview about 8 a.m. when she was hit.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies say she had just gotten off the bus and was walking to a nearby apartment building.

School officials at the university tell WSAZ.com Whitehair was a junior psychology major at the school. She was just 21 years old.

Friends of Ashli say she had a passion for life and her future career as a child phychologist.

"She wanted to be a psychologist and work with kids because she loved kids," said friend Doriel Beavers.

Tiffany Whitt, a close friend of Ashli's, said the accident was hard to believe at first.

"I actually had to read the article a few times because I was so in shock about the news," Whitt said.

Counselors were at the school Monday to help students and faculty deal with the loss.

An on campus memorial service is being planned, but no date has been set.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A busy road in Elkview is back open after a fatal accident Monday morning.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies say Ashli Whitehair, 21, of Elkview, had just gotten off a KRT bus and was walking to the Elk Crossing Apartment complex when she was hit by a pickup truck.

The accident happened about 8 a.m. in the 1500 block of Frame Road.

Whitehair died at the scene.

Frame Road was closed for several hours while crews tried to figure out what caused the accident. The road reopened just before noon.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies have released the name of the young woman who was hit and killed in Elkview Monday morning.

Deputies say Ashli Whitehair, 21, of Elkview, had just gotten off a KRT bus and was walking to the Elk Crossing Apartment complex when she was hit by a pickup truck.

The accident happened about 8 a.m. in the 1500 block of Frame Road.

Whitehair died at the scene.

A reconstruction expert is at the scene taking measurements, interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.

Deputies are looking at multiple factors that could have played a role in the crash including driver or pedestrian error, speed, mechanical failure or the environment.

The road is still closed as of 10:50 a.m. No word when it will reopen.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of a fatal accident that has closed a busy road in Elkview.

Kanawha County Deputies say a woman was hit and killed by a pickup truck in the 15-hundred block of Frame Road about 8 a.m.

Deputies say the woman had just gotten off a KRT bus and was walking to the Elk Crossing Apartment complex when she was hit.

Investigators have not released the name of the woman.

The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt.

Right now, Frame Road remains closed as investigators reconstruct what happened. The road is expected to be closed until at least 10 a.m.
