KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman died Wednesday in a one-car crash on Coal River Road in the Tornado area, Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies say.

Tammy Holsopple, 47, of Tornado died at the scene. She had to be freed from the car by members of the Tornado and West Side volunteer fire departments.

The crash was reported just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say Holsopple was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier south on Coal River Road. The car went off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Witnesses told deputies the car was going about 55 mph just before the crash.

Deputies say a 911 alert was issued near the intersection of Coal River Road and West Main Street near St. Albans about a white car being driven erratically just minutes before the crash.

The state Chief Medical Examiner's office will perform a toxicology test as part of the investigation.
