CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman from Dunbar accused of setting her boyfriend on fire admitted to her involvement in the crime.

Cynthia Marie Swoboda, 45, was scheduled to go on trial Monday in Kanawha County. Instead, Swoboda pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of unlawful wounding.

The judge sentenced her to one year in jail. She will receive credit for her time served so she's expected to get out in about six months.

During the plea hearing, Swoboda apologized and said she knew she shouldn't have done it.

"He was bugging me. He wouldn't leave me alone. I had a DVP on him. I went out into the middle of the street in the middle of the day, seeing if anybody would help. Nobody would help and so I just kind of took matters into my own hands, which was wrong," Swoboda said.

Swoboda was originally charged with felony attempted murder, malicious wounding and assault in commission of a felony, but those charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

Dunbar Police Lt. M.R. Arthur says 45-year-old Cynthia Marie Swoboda is charged with felony attempted murder, malicious wounding and assault in commission of a felony. She's being held in the South Central Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.

According to the Charleston Gazette, Arthur responded to an emergency call Saturday and found Shane Stone walking around a pharmacy parking lot, wincing in pain. Stone's back was red and appeared to be blistering. He told Arthur that his girlfriend had doused him with gasoline and set him on fire.

Arthur found an empty gas can and could smell gasoline in the area.

Stone was transported to a hospital for treatment.
