UPDATE: Woman Freed from Wreckage After Train-Car Collision

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston Police have identified a woman who was trapped in her car after it collided with a train in Kanawha City.

According to police, Martha Lambert, 81, of North Carolina, was conscious and alert when emergency crews were able to free her from the wreckage.

The accident happened just before 12:30 Friday morning in the 6800 block of MacCorkle Avenue Southeast.

Investigators say Lambert was confused when police first got on scene. She told police she thought she was in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Police say Lambert was listed as a missing person with NICU.

As of 12:30 p.m. Friday, Lambert was listed in critical condition at CAMC General.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An elderly woman who was trapped in her car after it collided with a train has been freed from the wreckage.

Kanawha County 911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com the woman is conscious and alert.

There is no word on the extent of any injuries she may have suffered, but she was transported to the hospital.

Fluid leaking from the scene was found to be from the car and does not present a hazard.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston police and other rescue crews are on the scene of a crash involving a train and a passenger car.

It happened just before 12:30 Friday morning in the 6800 block of MacCorkle Avenue Southeast.

911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com a woman was driving the vehicle and was trapped by the collision.

Crews are currently working to free her from the wreckage.

911 dispatchers say there is fluid leaking at the scene, but it is unclear whether that is from the train or the passenger vehicle.

They tell WSAZ.com the train did not derail in the crash.
