CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority played a crucial role during the Derecho in July.
On Thursday, FEMA reimbursed KRT for providing shuttles during the storm. KRT provided transportation for people who needed to stay at local shelters.
KRT also supplied local shelters with fuel for generators.
More than $8,000 was spent by KRT during the storm. FEMA reimbursed the authority $5,100 for the shuttle service. KRT won't be reimbursed for the fuel. That money will go to the individual shelters.
Board members also approved its new Emergency Preparedness Plan & Disaster Response and Recovery Plan. The board reviews the plan every three to four years to see what needs to be updated.
This plan includes safety procedures that would be used during any natural disaster, including storms, fires and train derailments.
The board approved the new plan during Thursday's meeting.
