PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) — A Pike County man was arrested after police say he was going door to door in the Virgie area asking for donations to pay for his child's funeral.

Police say David Pugh, 27, told them he actually needed money to support his suboxone addiction.

Pugh was charged with disorderly conduct when he was arrested Tuesday.

“When he came to the door he said, 'My two-month-old baby has died,' and he was needing money for the funeral and everything." said Teresa Tackett.

Folks say that was not the only story they heard.

"His dead child. His dead nephew. His sick nephew that needed a transplant," said local business owner Jeanie Bartley, "Whatever he could say to get someone to give him a little bit of money."

Pugh is set to be back in court in April.
