MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WSAZ) -- Our region's favorite vacation destination appears to be spared from the wrath of Hurricane Earl.
Late Wednesday, Hurricane Earl strengthened again into a powerful Category 4 storm as it tracked north of the Grand Strand. It appears headed for the North Carolina coast along the eastern United States seaboard, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
Randy Webster is the executive director of Emergency Services for Horry County. He says it appears the weather will be terrific for the long holiday weekend.
However, he says, "The rip tides may be cause for concern. Lifeguards will be keeping people close to shore, if allowing them in at all."
