Deputies say they've captured an armed man who escaped their custody Monday morning, causing a school to go into lockdown.
We're told Michael James was arrested along Route 21 South in Jackson County -- about five miles from where he escaped. Deputies say he did not have any guns on him when he was arrested.
Sheriff's deputies say James escaped out of a police cruiser early Monday morning in handcuffs. Deputies say James was arrested at around 5:30 Monday morning after a domestic dispute with his wife.
Deputies say after James escaped, he went to a relative's house and took two guns. Then he broke into a barn and used a farm tool to cut off his handcuffs. Deputies say he also stole a gun from the barn.
School leaders in Jackson County say Kenna Elementary went on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown is now over.
