The City of Milton and the WV State Health Department has ordered drinking water service discontinued in Milton until further notice.

That means the water is still running, but you should not drink it.

The City says its due to an unauthorized entry that occurred at about 2:00 AM Monday morning.

A person with the water system tells wsaz.com that someone tried to break into the building and that there was a breach of the back door.

In a release, the City says that it regrets the inconvenience and problems that this may caused, but given the directives which the City has received regarding the necessity for sampling and testing the City is unable to provide drinking water service to its customers until such time as the Order of Discontinue Provision of Drinking Water Service has been lifted.

The spokesperson also says at this time boiling the water is not an option.

Milton Elem. & Middle School are dismissing students at 11:00 AM

The City of Milton is making plans to make drinking water available this afternoon at Perry Morris Square.

due to our water rates should they not use some of their funds for surveilance for our safety? i know by looking at our water bills they sure should have enough money to install something!

Be patient with the water testing. Some test takes 24 hours or more to get the results. An example is the colilert test because it takes 24 hours or more for the water to turn yellow. Look up "Walkerton", a place in Canada. You don't want anything like that happening. They are doing it for your safety. This is probably nothing to worry about but if something was tampered, it could be a life or death situation. Better be safe than sorry.

If they do the colilert test, it will take about 24 hours to get the results. In a colilert test, water is added to a sample bottle and colilert powder is added. The colilert contains ONPG and If the water sample turns yellow, it contains coliform bacteria. Colilert reagent also contain MUG so if the water sample glows when placed in front of UV light, it contains E. Coli. Other test would probably also be done. The colilert test is only done to test for coliform bacteria.

Why are the city officials so silent on this issue; in the military they call this "absent without leave."

If they are concerned that someone may have contaminated the water, does it not make more since to actually turn the water off. You can't tell me that their aren't peeople that won't use the water since it is running either because they think its safe or they have no other water. I hope they get the water checked quick.
