Update: One of the men shot over the weekend in Charleston is improving. A nurse at CAMC says Emanuel McCarty is improving. He's been upgraded to satisfactory condition.
One is dead, one is in critical condition and several are injured after multiple shootings in Charleston Saturday morning.
Police have arrested 18 year-old Antonio Jefferies and 20 year-old Charles Moore and charged them with first degree murder in the death of Andrew Smoot. He's 20 years old. Police made the arrest around 9 Saturday morning.
Police say it all started around 3:30 a.m. outside the American Legion Club when someone shot Emmanuel McCarty and Desmond Clark. Police and witnesses say a friend of one of the victims followed the shooter to his home in the 1500 block of Washington Street East. That's when police say Smoot was shot and killed. Officers aren't saying if Smoot was involved in the shooting at the club.
Police tell us that things then moved to 1700 Kemp Avenue where Moore and Jefferies were involved in a drive-by shooting where several shots were fired. At this time, no victims have been reported from that shooting.
According to the criminal complaint, Moore and Jefferies were arrested at the corner of 6th Avenue and Stockton Street in Charleston. The complaint states Moore was wearing a bullet proof vest when he was arrested. Officers also say in the car where Moore and Jefferies were located, they found a Tec-9mm.
The criminal complaint also says Desmond Clark, Emmanuel McCarty, Charles Moore, and Antonio Jefferies were all hanging out together at the club prior to the shooting.
