A Charleston disc jockey was yanked off the air this morning after listeners complained of hearing too much 'Hail! Hail! to Michigan.'

Coach Kidd, a Michigan native who co-hosts a morning talk show on Electric 102.7 FM, was warned three times to ratchet down his enthusiasm over former WVU football coach Rich Rodriguez's decision to become coach at the University of Michigan.

Program manager Wade Hill says Kidd was just taking it a little too far, and his refusal to stop boiled down to insubordination.

After playing the Wolverines' fight song a fourth time, Coach Kidd was taken off the air. Hill said the decision to suspend Coach Kidd came from upper-level management.

Hill said listeners complained that the DJ's over-the-top support of Rodriguez's decision was disrespectful to the state.

Coach Kidd could not be reached for comment today.

This whole thing is pathetic. The coach took a better paying job for his family. The d.j. was just trying to get a rise out of stupid people, which he did. If one person here says they wouldn't take a better paying job if offered to them, then they are a liar. Get a grip, and get a life!!!!

quit screening commments if your gonna post one then post them all.. Ive wrote three comments and you didnt post any of them...wsaz is becoming a JOKE!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 21, 2007 at 08:23 AM
I think this whole situation is absolutely ridiculus along with 90% of the comments. I saw one comment that said you are a public figure with millions of listeners. Millions how big a market do you think Charleston is. I know it is way less than millions since there is not even 2 million people in WV. Anyone that was offended by this needs to grow up. He was just having a little bit of fun. I am sure that he thinks of all his listeners as friends that he can joke around with everyday if they are taking time out of their days to tune into his program and listen. If one of your friends was a Michigan grad and was giving you a hard time about this you would argue about it, but it would be fun. That is the best part about sports because everybody has a team and everybody loves to argue about who's team is better. We do this because it is a good time period not to step on anybody's toes, but because if it were the other way around we would be doing the same thing. Gorw Up Everyone.

I HAVE READ ALL THE COMMENTS AND PERSONALY SAY IT IS OK TO PLAY YOUR FAVORITE TEAM FIGHT SONG BUT TO MUCH IS TO MUCH .THEY SHOULD ALSO PASS ARULE THAT COACHES SHOULD HAVE TO FINISH COMPLETE SEASON BEFOR ATTEMPTING TO SWITCH JOBS NO SUCH THING AS LEAVING AJOB UNDONE NOW IF WE LOOSE THE BOWL THATS WILL BE JUST A GOOD EXCUSE .LOOK AT NASCAR CREW CHEIF GETS SUSPENDED HEY DRIVER STILL WIN LOOK AT NBA YOU CAN NOT GO STRAIGHT FROM HIGH SCHOOL ANYMORE .NCAAF NEEDS TO MAKE SOME CHANGES AND GOOD LUCK WVU

i think the raido station shoudl pay one million dollars so that the kids in wv that go to bed with out food will beenfit for something so stuipd to get all work up about have we lost what is really important in wv the gov is crying like a big baby i sent him a email no resp. yet i guess its to hard to cry about sick kids and wvu at the same time lets as a state step up to the plate and start fixing the problems of wv instead of trying to make senes of all this none sense

Posted by: Sherry on Dec 20, 2007 at 11:51 PM
Come on people this isn't that important..There are bigger things to get upset over..especially at this time of year..quit complaining and spend the energy on things that count..family, the homeless, kids that are in need. This is a stupid thing to waste any energy or time on.

Posted by: Shana on Dec 20, 2007 at 11:06 PM
Get over it. If you were not happy with what he was saying then you should have changed the station.

Posted by: dave on Dec 20, 2007 at 10:17 PM
The only thing that bothers me about all of this is the constant ranting by Marshall fans. I live in in Huntington, I have nothing against the University, I can't stand the fans. You people are comparing apples to oranges. Marshall does not even belong in the same sentence as WVu

Posted by: Not a fan of it on Dec 20, 2007 at 08:23 PM
This is so stupid. What kind of world do we live in, when a radio Dj can't comment on what his fav college is? If Howard Stern can be a total @$$ on his shows, why can't Coach Kidd be happy & rub it in. He's just having fun with it. I personally don't care about college football. What difference does it truly make who he prefers? Lets stop worrying about all the crack dealers, pedophiles, rapist, & other criminals, and just harrass a man with an opinion about college football. GROW UP PEOPLE!!!

Posted by: Cyndi on Dec 20, 2007 at 06:20 PM
I listen to Coach Kidd and Libby Jo, they have not done anything wrong. WVU fans grow up, there will be another coach and you will continue to do well in the Big East and National Football.. I think Coach Kidd was being funny.. Thanks to him for a laugh in a time where so much bad things are happening around us.. a football coach leaving is not the same as the war, child abandonment or missing children so get a grip.

Poor little WVwho fans.

I am a Michigan Graduate! I am also a huge Michigan Football fan! But, the way Michigan and Coach Rodriguez was ABSOULUTLY SHADY!!! In college they teach you ethics and also self pride. WHERE THE HECK IS THE SELF PRIDE...where the heck is the ethics? Out the window guess they don't know how to practice what they teach! SAD SAD SAD. As far as this DJ...SAME ON YOU FOR BEING PROUD OF BEING TOTALLY UNETHICAL!! I am glad you are cut off the air! Thank goodness someone has some commen sense.

Posted by: Steve on Dec 20, 2007 at 05:36 PM
Just as I said...PUBLICITY STUNT!!!!!

Posted by: Kasey on Dec 20, 2007 at 05:26 PM
Personally, I hope Michigan loses every single game. I think Coach Kidd should move back to Michigan and if you feel that there are more pressing issues stop commenting about a disc jockey that has obviously went no where in life instead of behind a microphone to annoy us all and get off your computers and do something about it. Merry Christmas!!

This state ranks 50th in all the good categories and 1st in all the bad ones. The economy is stagnant, the state government wants to control everthing and operate in secret. But a coaching change at one of the state's universities is what gets people worked into a tizzy. This state is at the bottom because the vast majority of people here can't get their priorities straight. Apparently, we deserve to be there.

Posted by: Kate on Dec 20, 2007 at 02:51 PM
personally, the man has gone overboard too many times. No one bothers to check with people about facts on stories they quote from newspapers, tv ... I've heard them state their opinion freely and openly about topics they know absolutely nothing about. Free speech is all well and good, but I guess it's okay to offend anyone. No, wait, if he was mentioning race instead of football, then he's bosses would have been seen as moral. I for one am glad someone finally said enough is enough. Thank you 102.7, not because it's about WVU or football, but for finally shutting down someone in the media for thinking they're god and can say and do anything and no one can shut them up. Now if someone would just handle Rush Limbaugh and Nancy Grace

Posted by: Mike on Dec 20, 2007 at 01:48 PM
A Coach....Who cares if he left, he got a better opportunity so good for him. I am sure when he goes to Michigan if he gets a better offer there he will leave them to. Get off his back. You people want to kill him by firing squad, but would do the same thing if given the chance so can you honestly blame him for wanting what is best for him and his family. GO BUCKS!!!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 20, 2007 at 01:25 PM
Please people, life doesn't begin and end with WVU football,we all know that is reserved for UK basketball!! after losing coach Pitino we can certainly say "I feel your pain"

Posted by: Phil on Dec 20, 2007 at 12:11 PM
I think this whole thing is unbelievable! Coaching is JUST a JOB, like we all have. If we get a better offer, we sometimes move on. WVU OR MU sports are NOT LIFE! There are a lot more pressing problems in the area, country, and world right now and who's coaching what team AIN'T one of them. Get over it people! Coach "Rod" or any other coach isn't God so stop treating them like they are!

Posted by: Lori on Dec 20, 2007 at 12:06 PM
This is to Kim about WVU being the state football team. WVU IS the state football team. If you haven't noticed they are called WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY. Their mascot is a MOUNTAINEER. Correct me if I am wrong but last time I checked that was the name of the state and the state mascot. Also, Marshall's is called the herd. I don't know about you but I have NEVER seen a buffalo in the state. What Coach Kid did isn't about being disrespectful to WVU fans it is about direct insubordination. Yes, he has freedom of speech but that does not mean that will not be consequences to his actions. Let's not be honest Marshall wines when they are winning and they whine when they're losing. It seems to me that Marshall needs to get over it. Oh, by the way WVU has been more than helpful in the past in regards to Marshall and we have supported in their worst moments. Is it so much to ask that the same courtesy by extended to WVU by Marshall fans?

Posted by: Marshall/WVU Fan on Dec 20, 2007 at 12:00 PM
I heard the F bomb go off this morning toward Coach Kid on the radio....And we wonder why the State of West Virginia gets ragged on by other states? Come on people get control! I love both Marshall and WVU but lately I have been hearing some of the worst comments from WVU fans. Do you think this may be a pay back for all the comments about the hard time Marshall is going through now? I have always heard what goes around comes around. Coach kid is a joker....you can tell if you listen everyday! Give him a break! I like him! I thought it was funny!!!!!

WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO BUY A EGG AND THROW AT HIM TODAY. GO TO KROGERS

Posted by: Stan on Dec 20, 2007 at 11:45 AM
Look here if you don't know what you are talking about get a grip. It is radio, if he would have played the wv fight song over and over and put down Mich. it would have been completely different. Rod is an money hungry man. end of story.

Posted by: Debbie on Dec 20, 2007 at 11:44 AM
another case of WVU fans being able to dish it out, but not take it. grow a skin folks. It's FOOTBALL, not life or death.

Posted by: Sara on Dec 20, 2007 at 10:00 AM
I am also a WVU fan but this is how I see it. I don't care who you are, if someone offers you the more pay to do the same job, you're more than likely going to take the other job. Rod has to do what is best for him & his family, just like any American would. And who can blame Coach Kidd. He's only supporting his time like we would be if we would have gotten UM's coach!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 20, 2007 at 09:30 AM
As a public speaker or a person in the public eye, you should have a lot more respect then this guy did! Millions of listeners tune in to listen to you everyday and 99% of them are WVians! Come on. How stupid can you get. When you bash WVU and everything that WVians hold special to them. You bash them! I'll tell you one thing, I will NEVER listen to this station again. I think he should be fired and if he likes Michagan so much..... GO BACK! Im not mad at Rodriguez for leaving, Im mad about the manner in which he has gone. Picking up and leaving his team before the bowl game is the worst thing he could have done. So my thoughts on this situation is, fire this guy, he isn't worth losing your listeners over? or is he? thats the decision the owners will have to make! To Laura Jean: YES WVIANS ARE GETTING TOUCHY, BECAUSE WE LOVE OUR STATE AND OUR STATE SCHOOL!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 20, 2007 at 09:21 AM
To "My Opion"--I wasn't aware there were a limited number of listening spaces for radio broadcasts.I hope noone catches me,I listen all the time without even asking permission!

Posted by: Laura Jean on Dec 20, 2007 at 08:52 AM
I think the Mountaineers are getting way too touchy. This is just ridiculous, what is it now if you voice an opinion WVU doesn't like your black listed? Well I think crap like this is what's going to hurt WVU in the bowl game, not loosing Coach Rod. Grow up people, life goes on.

Posted by: Just Me on Dec 20, 2007 at 08:39 AM
IT'S NOT ABOUT FREEDOM OF SPEECH, FOOTBALL OR ANYTHING ELSE!!! IF YOU WORK FOR AN AT WILL EMPLOYER (AS MANY DO) AND YOUR BOSS TELLS YOU TO STOP DOING SOMETHING AND YOU DON'T, 9 OUT OF 10 TIMES THERE WILL BE CONSEQUENCES! EVERYONE NEEDS TO GROW UP AND JUST GET OVER IT ALREADY!!! AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SAID YOU WON'T LISTEN TO 102 UNTIL HE'S BACK, HOW WILL YOU KNOW HE'S BACK IF YOU DON'T LISTEN? (BTW HE'S BACK TODAY!)

Posted by: chris on Dec 20, 2007 at 08:08 AM
When he played it the 4th time that was a little to much!!

Posted by: Marco on Dec 20, 2007 at 08:07 AM
I think it is stupid that he even was suspended. He has every right to support his team & to play their fight song. How many times have they played that Blue & Gold rap song thing?? I personally dont care for it at all. Not all the listeners are WVU fans.

Posted by: my opion on Dec 20, 2007 at 07:58 AM
oh well... so some of you decide not to listen to 102 until they bring back the coach Kidd, It's like this, one person stops tuning in to the show, that leaves room for five new listners,Thanks.

Posted by: Sam on Dec 20, 2007 at 05:59 AM
What ever happened to free speech? It's one of the most basic rights of this country. How can you tell someone not to be enthusiastic about their team getting a good coach. Not everyone that lives in West Virginia supports the Mountaineers. What's wrong with people, they can't even handle a little excitment over a rival team, are we that obsessed with our false gods, a petty case of worship. "Get over it!" is what I have to say to all those who feel a little offended. Also, if they do fire him, which they should very carefully consider, wouldn't he have great grounds for suing them?

Posted by: steve on Dec 20, 2007 at 05:21 AM
Two words: PUBLICITY STUNT!! In radio this is known as "stunting". This is nothing more than a station looking to gain some publicity and you people fell for it.

Posted by: who cares? on Dec 20, 2007 at 03:53 AM
i personally think that it is not a big deal whether he leaves or not. so why make it? if he wants to go that bad then just let him go, i know for a fact it isn't hurting my feelings any im not going to think any more or less about the football program in morgantown.

Posted by: Justin on Dec 20, 2007 at 03:00 AM
The people in West Virginia need to lighten up. Coaches switch schools quicker than players leave for the NFL. This is one of the constants of sports whether pro or college. Coeaches move on to more prestigious programs and teams when they have the opportunity. Just be glad that he left the football program in better shape than before he arrived. Honestly, had West Virginia even had any national recognition before coach Rodriguez arrived. Also, the comparisons to Slick Nick Saban are absurd. Saban bolted for the pros and Miami and when he realized that it was going to take a lot longer than he first thought he abandoned his team quicker than Ricky Williams can fail a drug test. Also, Petrino is way worse than what Mr. Rodriguez did. Petrino bailed on his team without finishing the season because it got tough. At least Coach Rodriguez finished the regular season. College ball is all about school spirit and having fun so before you go off because someone showed some get a sense of humor.

Posted by: Spartacus on Dec 20, 2007 at 01:41 AM
Freedom of speech? Yes, we do have freedom of speech. On our own time. A DJ's time on the air is not given to him as a personal forum. He's not a paid pundit who gets paid to offer his personal opinions. He's not a serious journalist who is being silenced ot told to distort truth. When he's in the DJ booth, he represents the broadcasting company and his sponsors. What he says and does in the booth is a direct reflection on them. If he's going out of his way to antagonize the listeners who are potential customers for his sponsors, the station has every right to can him. If I'd been the station manager, I'd have fired him on the spot. Not because I'm a WVU fan, but because I would not allow that man to embarrass the sponsors who subsidize my business.

Posted by: Amanda on Dec 20, 2007 at 12:40 AM
One or two times play the song and everyone can laugh but 4?? He was crossing a line his employer advised him not to cross..At my job, freedom of speech ends at the elevator each morning..I don't like the morning show anyhow because of him particularly and have not tuned in for years..the lame jokes and skits are not entertaining or funny!! I hope they replace him, he can go back to Michigan if he loves it so much, until then I'll be listening to John Boy and Billy or Bob and Tom

WVU fans are nothing but sore losers. How can anyone in their right mind call and complain about a guy doing his job?Is the state population whiny enough to cause someone to lose their job 1 week from Christmas. If Rich Rod went to Marshal to coach would "coach" be aloud to play their fight song as much as he liked without upsetting a few inbred hillbillies from the coal feilds?I seem to think so.The guy that did the firing of "coach" should take a few business management classes because this guy must not know how important ratings are.It just goes to show that if enough people cry and whine and they can have a good man fired for voicing his opinion. Here are few words for those people that had the nerve to call and complain get ready to start paying his wages. Now that he is unemployed who do you think will be paying his unemployement; the West Virginia tax payers. Is this not what the great state of cry babies need another out of work adult.Way to go to those who felt betrayed GO MICHIGA.

Posted by: Robin on Dec 19, 2007 at 11:33 PM
Yes, we have freedom of speech in this country as one of our personal freedoms, until you represent someone. Coach Kidd was representing Super 102, not the alumni of The University of Michigan. I believe his job is to entertain, play the music the listening public wants to hear, and interject a little information. There is a target audience the station considers. That's why people are encouraged to call in. The objective of the radio station is to create a positive experience for the listeners, gain more listeners, and hope they will listen to the advertising, patronize the merchants, so in turn, more advertising is sold and MONEY is made. People were complaining, management issued an order for the chaos to stop. He refused. It is insubordination. He refused to follow a direct order. Management was within their rights. It happens to many people. Why don't you folks go out there and support the teacher in trouble for "banned books" or Pete Corbett who was suspended for having a cook-out

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 19, 2007 at 11:27 PM
Who cares is right! It's just a man on the radio having an opinion. Ya maybe he went too far but hey if you don't like that well don't listen to my morning show. (lex and Terry) After all it's all over a man coaching a football team. Live in the real world WVU fans! Coaches come and Coaches go. Yours is gone! on to somewhere else. Quit bashing him for leaving. Apparently WVU didn't want to keep him bad enough. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!! MONEY TALKS!!!!!!!

Posted by: tb2 on Dec 19, 2007 at 10:57 PM
That DJ has every right to play his team song. Sounds to me like someone at 102.7 was afraid of getting his/her box seat taken away. Oh well...sit in the cold like the rest of us. That is if you like WVU. Personally I say GO HERD!!!!

Posted by: Seth on Dec 19, 2007 at 10:34 PM
Very true he should be able to voice his opinion- however, im sure when he was hired as a DJ in charleston, he signed some documents stating he could/couldnt talk about some things, and had to follow orders while at work. being out on the street and shouting from the rooftops is one thing- but if you're at work you are bound to some sort of code that you wouldnt be if you were out and about, not at work. several places you work have 'trade secrets' that you sign papers for, stating that you wont share such information with others for fear of some competition finding out. So if you're in a WV based station and singing praises for someone whom west virginians feel like he betrayed them- odds are you're going against your job. you have to look at it from a business standpoint, because you can be personal all you want outside the office- where you have to be professional.

I don't understand why Coach is being treated like Don Imus. Did he say something that would do permanent damage to someones life functioning? NO! It is football for crying out loud, people! I have listened to Coach and Libby for the ten years they have been on air, and I agree with what Libby said this morning, she can't do it with out them, and I won't listen without them on air. Childish? Perhaps. But they started it..haha, that was coated in sarcasm for those who are lacking in the sense of humor department.

I think what 102 did to Coach Kid is outrageous!! And as for all you cry baby WVU fans get a life. He is not your daddy and does not have to baby you. You know, there is more to life than football, and the way you people (whinning WVU fans) are acting is an embarassment to the state. So what if the Coach left, are you people really gonna sit there and try to act like if you had the chance you wouldn't take the money? You know you would because it is a chance to make things better for your family and yourself, I know I would.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 19, 2007 at 09:49 PM
well I guess next we should fire all the tv newscasters too because I am so sick of hearing about r-rod leaving,, good riddence to him... He didnt care enough for the WVU to stick with them until the bowl game was played so let him go and quit cry babying about it, Im so sick of R-Rod, Why do people even want him here if he doesnt want to be here? Let him go and get over it and let the DJ have his job back, he has a right to be happy for his team. Give him his job back and quit being sore losers....

Posted by: Floyd on Dec 19, 2007 at 09:48 PM
I dont see this as an issue of freedom of speech. When you are on the time clock, you belong to your company. When they say no, that means no. He was given fair warning and still chose to be insubordinate. Its not about the game, the team, or the coach. Its about when to say enough is enough. If you are stuck on free speech, go tell your boss how hot he or she is and see just hor free you are? You will be really free when you are looking for a job.

Posted by: jason on Dec 19, 2007 at 09:27 PM
do people not understand that the morning show is a comedy show and he was doing it to pull people's legs!!! if the roles were reversed and we took michigan's coach we would rag him for it....it's all in good fun

Posted by: Richard R. on Dec 19, 2007 at 09:21 PM
If you don't like what you are hearing on a particular radio station, please feel free to reach down and turn the dial to another station. No one said you have to listen to the garbage known as the "Michigan Fight Song". And Besides, The DJ was simply acting as a typical Michigan Fan. They act like that all the time, and it is expected from the rest of the country. That's why that fan base has always been the big joke across the entire country. That gene pool in Michigan could use a little chlorine.

This is about freedom of speech, its about doing what your boss told you to do. I am sure that if most of you were told by your boss not to do something at work you would listen.I know I would not get 3 warnings,on the second one I would be fired. And its not like 102 is the "press" they are to entertain, and entertain how the bosses want them too.

To all the so called die hard WVU fans: get over it. It is football, Coack Kidd is a radio DJ, this is what they do. They are their to entertain the public, dont like it dont listen. I found it quite funny. I moved to the state only 3 yrs ago and I dont recall signing a contract that states that I now have to be a WVU fan because I am a resident of this state. He has a right to support whoever he wants. Kudos to Libby for supporting her fellow co-worker!! This is America we have that right called the freedom of speech. He wouldnt have gotten suspended if ignorant "WVU"fans did not act like the world has stopped due to a coach leaving the state.

Posted by: Tanya on Dec 19, 2007 at 08:24 PM
yes, I agree Coach Rod can do anything he wants to but want happened to the need to need make your team better. He had everything handed to him, can you tell me that money was not a motivator?

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 19, 2007 at 08:18 PM
Its called freedom of speech until you are getting paid by an employer and the employer says to stop. One needs to realize that he is being paid by the company, talking on company equipment and talking over their frequency. While one is at work, free speech only take place between people there at work. The employer has the right to restrict anything being said by an employee talking on a radio!

Sure coach crossed the line but he made the show funny I love both of them. When he left a few years ago i also quit listening. Everyone just needs to GROW UP!

I can't believe how immature people are over a crazy game that Coach nor they even control to begin with. Coach and Libby keep that station interesting. I was coaching him on in the shower as he did it this morning and thinking that it's about time someone broke up the boohoo's and got on with our lives. Everyone wants "SOMEONE" to blame. GROW UP FOLKS, THINGS HAPPEN!! If this is all it takes to upset and fire this God fearing entertainer(peer if you will), then maybe I need to switch stations myself. GO COACH AND LIBBY, MEET ME IN THE MORNING AT BOB AND TOMS HOUSE !! :)

Oh, boo-hoo, boo-hoo, poor Z is so unhappy at the way Marshall fans were treated in Morgantown. Somebody get him a crying towel, quickly! For Z and all you other ignorant Blundering Herd fans, please try to understand that the reason you were treated unkindly in Morgantown is that YOU ARE NOT WELCOME THERE. The good old governor forced the series- held a gun to WVU's head, threatening to withhold future appropriations, if WVU would not agree to play Cabell County Community College. No political interference of the worst sort, and there is no series, period. You Marshall crybabies spend all your time complaining about how weak WVU's schedule is, without realizing that the worst team by far is good old Marshall, mired in the cellar of mighty Conference USA. WVU may well loose against the Sooners- they may be the best team in the country right now. But at least they'll be IN a bowl- a BCS bowl, at that. Marshall is the 'Jan Brady' of WV- "WVU, WVU, WVU!" Enjoy losing five more WVU games!

What's all this talk about "freedom of speech"? There is no such thing as "free speech" if someone hears it and doesn't like it. If you don't believe me, just ask Don Imus.

You either love coach or hate him. I happen to love him. He is sooo... funny and his humor is what makes him so funny. People need to take a step back and realize coach will be coach and he thought it was funny to keep playing the song and I am sure he thought it was crazy people were getting so upset over this situation. I sent in a email to the station this morning, if coach is fired, I will not listen to 102 anymore. No one should lose their job at Christmas time over something this stupid. He is a DJ, poking fun is what a good DJ does, keep you laughing and that is what Coach and Libby do, they keep me rolling in the mornings. My 10 year daughter happens to love them too. To Libby, I say you are a true friend to say you were taking a personal day and leave. I am sure you went to him and I hope he is okay.

well i like michigan a little beter than WVU because uthe fans are not crazy. and if people said coach Rod had no loyalty then he would went 2 bama last year makeing more money the michigan so i hate 2 say this but i think its good 4 him

Posted by: Jayme on Dec 19, 2007 at 06:24 PM
Who cares that Rich left WVU does anyone really watch WVU. I thought everyone that lives in WV likes Virginia Tech. I guess we can all refer to WVU as Southern Michigan now. I love it.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 19, 2007 at 06:10 PM
I think if he was told to stop and he continued then yes he should be suspended, but for the coach's and football or any sport to be exact. they are all way over paid. noone is worth that kind of money to play a sport. I can careless where he goes, who cares if your good at it. Sports are suppose to be played for enjoyment, not to become multimillonairs.

OK so heres the deal even though he did go a little too far with his enthusiasm who cares if you dont like turn the station.I listen to Coach Kidd and LJ every morning and i think they are great but everyone is taking this football stuff way to serious it was Coach Rods decision to leave he went for the money and who could blame him but come on to pull coach off the air was just stupid and

Posted by: Rose on Dec 19, 2007 at 05:29 PM
Wonder if he would have gotten yanked if he'd been talking about George W. Bush? Think about it.

Posted by: Kristi on Dec 19, 2007 at 05:25 PM
If Coach Kidd is not back on the air, I will no longer listen to 102. It is crazy that he was taken off the air. Besides, the way I look at it is that this time next year we will all be kidding him because Coach Rod will probably be fired from Michigan. Coach Rod did not make the WVU football team - the WVU football team made Coach rod.

Posted by: Leslie on Dec 19, 2007 at 05:19 PM
WVU fans are idiots. It's called FREEDOM of speech people. He is a radio DJ. Talking is what he does, and he should be able to voice his opinion. Get over it WVU. Football coaches come and go. Your's went. As for people saying if you live in WV you should support WVU... that's BS. I guess that means everyone in WV should support Marshall too?? We all know that doesn't happen. If Coach Kidd goes, I do too. He left on his own a few years ago, and I stopped listening to 102. He came back, and I listened again. WVU fans just need to get a life. Coaches come and coaches go... it's nothing new.

Free speech is free speech; however, when YOUR SUPERVISOR tells you to can it, you can it. That is the right of the boss.

Posted by: tyler on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:59 PM
Listen..I am a huuuge michigan fan. However, I think this is the worst decision Michigan has ever made. Rich is getting ready to lose the #1 rated QB out of high school 2 years ago for a subpar QB out of PA. As long as Rodgruez is there...I will not watch a single game

Posted by: Steve on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:53 PM
Amen Scott! and to those screaming "Freedom of Speech", that is a right you hold in your personal life. You can say Go Michigan, or Go WVU all you want outside of the boundaries of your job. Fact is, they own the station, they have a right to run the station as they see fit, he may feel he has the right to say it, but they have the right to punish him if he does. Don't believe me? Go tell your boss he's an idiot , right now and see what happens.

Posted by: Allen on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:51 PM
*Cough* freedom of speech *cough*

Posted by: Carly on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:47 PM
Each morning, I will turn the radio station to 102.7. If coach Kidd is not on the station, I won't be either. Just a small point..... If WVU and MICHIGAN were in reversed roles, name one person who wouldn't have joked with Kidd about it. You can't!!!! Grow Up Wade, and all the other "so called" managers.... You've lost a listener until Kidd is back.

You have got to be kidding me. You know these crazy mountaineer fans are out of control. The majority of them never even went to college, much less wvu. When they have a good team they ram it down your throat, when things do not go their way they cry like little babies. See above column for reference. How stupid.

Posted by: reg on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:34 PM
wow, it's nothing like he said anything obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, or threatening. should the jerry springer show, maury, etc should be pulled off from tv too? if you don't like the morning show, change the channel. let the ratings decide. geesh!

Posted by: Steve on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:34 PM
You know probably the reason that coach played the song is he is excited that now Mich might have a chance at football? But we do have a freedom of speech thats the problem though when we get a chance to use it we get slammed. What we all need to understand is its not the coach that plays the game and we got a heck of a team GO MOUNTAINEERS......

Posted by: JF on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:26 PM
I am a HUGE WV fan. However-I think that the decision of Coach's suspension is crazy. He has a right to be happy for Michigan. Do you all not understand that we are going to get a NEW and even BETTER coach than Rich Rod. We will go on to win more games and championships. One year from now this will be old news. Yes it was dirty what Rich Rod did to this state and to his players..but what goes around comes around. He wont last to long at Michigan. Keep your head up WV Fans-We will learn from this and grow to be stronger than ever!!

Posted by: You know what on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:24 PM
I bet WVU fans were giving him all kinds of grief when Michigan lost to Appy State. Too bad they can't take it when the tables are turned. And I'd like to know how many of the people that called and complained actually went to WVU.

Posted by: Z on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:22 PM
I'm sorry to burst everyone's bubble but the world does not revolve around WVU! As a Marshall student attending the WVU-Marshall game in Morgantown, I, along with my friends, were treated terribly! WVU fans were cussing, spitting, and throwing things at Marshall fans, even the elderly! I am glad that Rich Rod is going to a better place to coach, a place that has some class! Welcome back to reality 'Eers! If you are going to dish it out, be prepared to take it! Instad of being arrogant, maybe a little concern should be on class, something the whole region lacks. There was very minimal taunting by Marshall fans. We show class, unlike Mountaineer fans who think that they rule the world! I cannot wait for the pounding WVU is going to receive from the Sooners!

Posted by: Travis on Dec 19, 2007 at 04:16 PM
Go Blue! I'm a HUGE WOLVERINE'S FAN and getting coach Rod was awesome, and the recruits coming with him. Yanking someone off the air because he used his freedom of speech is crazy. Not everyone in and from W.V cheers for W.V.U. If what he did was dissrespectful then Huntington shouldn't even be part of the state. Huntington was so happy to see W.V.U lose to Pitt, we love seeing the eer's dreams being shattered. Coach Rod is going to do great things at Michigan and I can't wait to see. GO BLUE!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 19, 2007 at 03:29 PM
I am a WVU fan but it is the job of DJ's to entertain and have a bit of shock. Thats all coach did. I am not upset with what he did. He likes Michigan I like WVU. He did not say anything vulgar. He choose to support his team. Its just a game people WVU will move on. I thought what he was doing was entertaining and I laughed. If he played a WVU song would he got suspended cause Marshall fans got upset no! They were wrong to do this to him. He did nothing to tune down.

Posted by: JM on Dec 19, 2007 at 03:29 PM
Just because you don't like the results of coach Rod's decision to leave to take a position at a better university doesn't mean you take your feelings out on someone else who is happy over the decision. A case of displaced agression.

Posted by: kim on Dec 19, 2007 at 03:17 PM
I think it is so unbelieveable that Coach was suspended! One, he was poked at yesterday and he should have every right to be loyal to his home town. We should respect him and let him share his feelings. Also, he has the right of free speech ecpecially on a radio!!. Did every one forget that there is another football team? MARSHALL!! It's like WVU is the state football team or something and that is not fair to those who are Marshall fans. We are just as valuable as WVU. Again, put Coach Kidd back on the air!! He would never hurt people just to be mean and he seems to be a very sincere, sweet, thoughtful person. Leave him alone!

Posted by: Jamie on Dec 19, 2007 at 03:13 PM
While I agree with Freedom of Speech, Coach was warned numerous times. Listeners called in and complained. I don't see it as a "WVU, Michigan" thing. It would be the same on ANY other topic. Of course he took things too far, he's Coach Kidd after all. He always does. The point of the matter is, whether you like WVU, Michigan, Marshall, etc. he was warned by the radio station to pipe down and he didn't. People getting mad over this just shows the whole point of why people leave WV. It gives true meaning to "stupid hillbilly rednecks." Grow up, shall we? Let us show we have some sense.

Posted by: dave on Dec 19, 2007 at 03:10 PM
the only thing disrespectful is how WVU fans are acting... WVBoo-Hoo

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 19, 2007 at 03:05 PM
Freaking crazy I for one will not listen to 102.7 again. I'm sure if he was a Marshall fan and was playing their fight song it would be ok. GEEZ give it a rest and HAIL TO THE VICTORS!

Posted by: Brian A. on Dec 19, 2007 at 03:05 PM
I was born & raised in WV, but graduated from Penn State, because I did not like WVU or MU. This past week has been an embarrassment on how adults are acting because Coach Rod made a decision that was best for his family & not the State of WV. As for the DJ being pulled because he played the UM fight song 4 times. So what, most midnights when I work, I hear the same songs over & over again during my shift, no matter what station I listen to. Grow up people & get a life. Coach Kidd, continue to use your Freedom of Speech & play the UM fight song. Go Penn State!!!

Posted by: Steve on Dec 19, 2007 at 03:00 PM
Radio DJs are the equivalent of 4th rate stand-up comics. They're not funny, and they never have been. They're an embarrassment to radio stations. They're not wacky. They're not zany. They're not anything but an annoyance.

Posted by: Listener in Jackson Co. on Dec 19, 2007 at 02:56 PM
I happened to be listening to the radio this morning when this going on.I agree w/freedom of speech and right to our opinion but if he was asked to stop then he should have stopped. I have a job and I know if I was doing something that managment disagreed with and was told to stop it and I didn't, I would be fired too. Just because he is on the radio does not make him his own boss. He should have stopped or taken it up with his bosses off the air.But in his defense, I will not listen to 102.7 until they put him back on and I'm a pretty faithful listener.

Posted by: TB on Dec 19, 2007 at 02:38 PM
I think a lot of people are missing the point. He was asked to tune it down and he did not. It's just like any job you have to do what you are told if not you may get fired. Thats life!

Posted by: Melissa on Dec 19, 2007 at 02:38 PM
I do not think Coach Rod made the right decision for WV but for his self & his family he did... I think any of us would do it.. You always want the MOST for your family and to me that is a good husband & father. HOWEVER !!! IT IS COMPLTELY WRONG KICKING A DJ OFF THE AIR FOR THE RIGHT WE HAVE OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH......

Posted by: Listener on Dec 19, 2007 at 02:14 PM
Good he is a smart aleck anyway.

Posted by: Scott on Dec 19, 2007 at 02:07 PM
This is absolutely pathetic. I'm embarassed to live in this state after the way everyone is reacting to WVU's football coach leaving. BIG DEAL! It's just a game, and college coaches come and go all the time. Get on with your lives, people! I haven't seen this much stupidity since the whole Huntington "Pink bridge" debacle.

Posted by: bill on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:56 PM
So the DJ is happy that Coach Rod went to UM and played the song maybe more than he should have. That is no reason to pull him off the air. This state need to grow up, no wonder nobody wants to stay here.

Posted by: Brian on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:45 PM
So much for freedom of speech huh? And disrespectful to the state? No... not at all. After all, there are 2 major universities in the state and it would be ashamed if fans of one could not say anything about the other huh?

Posted by: john on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:43 PM
I think that it is a violation of freedom of speech, to pull coach off the air for playing the Michigan fight song. It is just wrong. The state is a lot better off without coach Rod. It is so obvious that he is not interested in coaching for WVU any longer. He threw the game against Pitt to keep form competing for a national championship. So all I am saying is Hail Hail Michigan maybe coach Rod will be true to your state and your team. I say let coach kid keep on playing wahtever fight song he wants.

Posted by: Upset Listener on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:35 PM
I have listened to 102.7 for years and know that Coach has the tendency to take things too far when joking around, but he was doing just that. To suspend him and make such a big deal out of it is rediculous. I believe there must be more important news to report on this...

Posted by: Tim A on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:32 PM
sometimes a nice guy, but about time someone reigned him in. he gets by with more stuff than any DJ should. And what is amazing is that he thinks he is funny. Why most of us no longer listening in the mornings...

Posted by: Jennifer on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:31 PM
I believe that it is absolutely ridiculous that Coach Kidd was suspended for playing the Michigan Fight Song! Aren't radio DJ's supposed to try to get a reaction out of their listening audience?

Posted by: WVUFan on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:24 PM
I am so glad the radio station has taken action this guy crosses the line on alot of things. I stopped listening to 102 a long time ago because of him. This was just the line all WV Fans have drawn and rightfully so. If you dont support WV at this time in what alot of people are calling tragic then you dont deserve to host our radio station. If your so happy with Coach *Wod's* decision follow his butt and DJ up there. Instead of a Charter bus headed to Michigan it needs to be called the Traitor bus im sure it will be filled , alot of traitors are comming out of the wood work.

Posted by: Beth on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:09 PM
Oh my goodness and yet another person gets in trouble for speaking freely. so what?? someone leaves WV to better themselves?? Is that not what one is suppose to do, try to better themselves? perhaps a better contract was offered? Good for him! Wish him happiness. this does not put down WV..it just happens to show that perhaps we do not have the wages and benefits that perhaps other states do to keep our employees...HERE. So, Coach Kidd showed him support and aired it, so what????? Yet again people complaining..which they do alot of..gets someone in trouble. Don't like listening to his show?? turn the station. I for one will keep listening, because whether i agree with everything that is said or not, it's what i value of people..the right to have our own opinions. What next?? Are people going to complain of the Christmas carols played , or the Hippopotamus for Christmas song and have them taken off the air?? I surely hope not!! Let him have his air time back..what he is paid to do.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:07 PM
once again you people are worryinh about a football game just a game are gov has already made a fool of himself lets impeach him since he cares more about football then kids going to bed without food

Posted by: Mteer on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:04 PM
Okay now this stuff is getting way out of hand. Mountaineer fans need to get thicker skin. Not all WV residents bleed blue and gold. As true Mountaineer fans we need to ignore everything the media is saying, forget about Rich Rod, and support our team. The team needs us to focus on the future and the Fiesta Bowl. By the way my husband is a Sooner fan and he tries to get under my skin all of the time by humming the Sooner fight song. When I ignore him, he stops.

Posted by: R.E. on Dec 19, 2007 at 01:04 PM
I support that descision, but enough is enough about Rodriguez too. It's all I hear on the news now, "Rodriguez,Rodriguez,Rodriguez" enough all ready.

I THINK IT STUPID THAT COACH WLD BE SUSPENDED WHEN EVERYONE HAS DONE NOTHING BUT TALK ABOUT COACH ROD EVERY SINCE HE MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT, FRANKLY I REALLY DONT CARE WHERE HE GOES OR WHO HE COACHES BUT COACH KID HAS FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND IF PEOPLE DONT LIKE IT LET THEM SWITCH RADIO STATIONS, I WILL NOT LISTEN TO ELECTRIC 102 UNTIL COACH IS BACK

Posted by: Brooke on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:51 PM
I think the suspension of Coach Kidd is ridiculous! Why can't he be happy about his home team. He also supports WVU and goes to their games. I think the people who called in and complained about him need to get a life. This state doesn't revolve around WVU football. I was born and raised in WV and I can't stand the Mountaineers! Go Herd! We support you Coach. Good Luck!

Posted by: angery on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:44 PM
Send him to Michigan to, we dont need people like that rubing this in our face I hope I dont have to hear him on the radio anymore. Doesnt he know where he lives this is West Virginia Boy.

Posted by: Mary on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:42 PM
Ridiculous! People in this state need to move on...it's football for God's sake...not anything life and death. Coach Kidd is a Mighigan fan and he has as much right to his opinion as others have to theirs. Granted, he does have access to the air waves to voice them. But others have used sites this this along with the Vent Line and the Readers Voice to express theirs. Get a life everyone...and that includes the folks at Bristol Broadcasting! They should be ashamed at censoring him.

Posted by: Jennifer on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:40 PM
I can't believe this one! Hello, FREEDOM OF SPEECH! Coach Kidd has a right to like Michigan and it was not disrespectful to the state for him to be happy about Rodriguez going to Michigan and letting it be known. I HATE WVU and I was born and raised here in WV , and to be honest I LOVE MICHIGAN, but I have to say I don't know if I can be a supporter of the Wolves anymore because they have Rodriguez now and I really don't like him, but are you going to say I can't write on a message board anymore because I don't like Rodriguez and was a supporter of Michigan??? Apparently people have nothing better to do!

Posted by: LOL on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:39 PM
CK & LJ are the best and I support Libby's decision to walk this morning. I am a WVU fan but I also support fans of other teams. 102 needs to get over it and bring the best DJ in the state back where he belongs.

Posted by: Christie on Dec 19, 2007 at 12:38 PM
If Coach Kidd wants to hear the Michigan fight song, he should go to Michigan. The people of West Virginia are a tight knit group of folks...and we don't need someone with like him digging deeping in our wounds. Kudo's to the management for his suspension...they should make it permanent. He needs to go back to Michigan where he can play it all he wants!
