SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A disabled grandmother in her 60s was raped in her home in late October by her 13-year-old grandson, South Point police say.
Police Chief Chris Majher says this weekend, the grandmother told the grandson's legal guardian about the rape. The guardian then turned the boy in.
On their Facebook page, South Point Police posted "Prior to this incident he had attempted to rape his grandmother's home health nurse. That incident was not reported to us. In addition, months prior he had threatened to kill the same grandmother with a hammer."
Majher says they'd responded to a call at the grandmother's home more than six months ago, but that after they arrived, she was not cooperative, possibly because she didn't want to see her grandson get in trouble.
The grandson is being held in a juvenile center in Lawrence County, Majher said.
Police are not commenting now on his mental status.
They are investigating whether there may have been other victims, Majher said.
Police say the grandson’s guardian, who is a relative, lives in Huntington, W.Va.
The chief says the grandmother told the guardian about the incident this weekend because she had to be taken to the hospital for separate health issues. She remained hospitalized as of Tuesday night.
