Richie Robb retired as mayor of South Charleston this past summer, but politics aren't out of his blood.
Robb, a Democrat, told wsaz.com today that he is getting things ready to run for Congress in West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District. The seat is currently held by Republican Shelley Moore Capito.
"I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it," Robb said. "I just don't know when."
Robb has to make up his mind quickly. The filing period for office is January 14th through the 26th.
There is one confirmed candidate on the Democrat side. That's State Senator John Unger.
Robb ran for governor four years ago. He was one of several well known Republicans to run for the nomination. Businessman Monty Warner won the GOP nomination.
In 2005, Robb switched his affiliation to the Democrat party after he said he found himself with philosophical differences with the Republican party. The most significant one involved his opposition to the war in Iraq.
He retired earlier this year after serving the city of South Charleston for more than thirty years as mayor.

I'm glad another candidate is stepping up against Unger, especially from the population center of the district. Thornton Cooper has already, but Robb will certainly offer more resistance and will represent the interests of the Kanawha Valley.
Did this surprise anyone? Hope the democrats won't support a fence runner!
