A trip down memory lane is now at your fingertips. The Marshall University Library just launched a new website called 50 Years Ago Today: As Seen on WSAZ-TV News. The website will showcase a new clip every day -- and it's all old WSAZ video dating back to 1952.
Andrew Earles who is in charge of digitizing the WSAZ news footage says it’s a tedious process. There is 1.68 million feet of 16mm film that has to be converted, and that’s not including video which came into play after 1982. And once the film is digitized it has to be cataloged and put on-line.
So far 15 years of video have been archived; including news coverage of the Buffalo Creek Disaster, the Silver Bridge Collapse, and the Marshall University Plane Crash. The University hopes to have all 50 years of film digitized and on-line within the next two years. You can take a look at the old news clips at:
