UPDATE 2/8/12 @ 12:08 a.m.
UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Stephanie Harris, an off-duty volunteer firefighter -- who's also a paramedic -- spotted a house fire in Lawrence County, Ohio. She just happened to be in the right place at the right time to help save a life.
Harris and her daughters were on their way to yoga, when they were suddenly sidetracked by the fire. "There's a man who ran into the yard," said Stephanie. "He shouted that there was a guy in the house."
Where panic might set in for most, Stephanie's a volunteer for the Chesapeake-Union Twp Volunteer Fire Department. Knowing her fellow crew members were still a few minutes away, Stephanie's firefighter instincts kicked in to save the man inside.
"I heard him very faintly at the last window. I pulled the screen out and there was a bunch of debris and furniture in the way, so I kicked it of the way. I asked him to hold up his hand. I grabbed it, and another gentleman helped me pull him through the window and up the yard, away from the flames."
Stephanie's also a paramedic in Lawrence and Cabell Counties. The adrenalin rush is just second nature. "At the time, I didn't have a chance to be scared. Now I realize all the things that could have happened. I just hope he's ok."
The victim's name has not been released at this time.
