French Creek Freddie saw his shadow on Groundhog Day, indicating that winter will last another six weeks.

West Virginia's furry forecaster on Saturday matched the prediction made a few hours earlier by his more famous Pennsylvania cousin, Punxsutawney Phil.

About 200 people came to the West Virginia Wildlife Center in Upshur County for the tradition that has been practiced there since 1978.

The event was last held on a Saturday in 2002. Wildlife center biologist Rob Silvester says the normal turnout when Feb. 2 falls on a weekday is about 50.

Freddie last saw his shadow on Groundhog Day in 2005.
