LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Dannielynn Birkhead's dad is returning to his Kentucky hometown to build a house for a struggling single mother.

Larry Birkhead says he identifies with the woman as a fellow single parent. The Louisville native is raising Dannielynn, the daughter of former model and actress Anna Nicole Smith, who died just over a year ago.

Birkhead says he wanted to do something positive for the community where he was raised. He is teaming with Habitat for Humanity, the non-profit group that builds homes for the needy.

The single mother who will move into the house has three children. Two suffer from spina bifida, a birth defect that affects the spinal cord.

Birkhead says he will name the home for Dannielynn.

I am glad that Larry is coming back to Ky. to raise Dannielyn.Ca. is no place to raise any child.To many bad things goes on there.Anna would of done her best for Dannielyn.I like the way Larry has done,he lets Howard be a part of Dannielyn's life.Love to see them together.

way to go Larry your daughter is the most important thing of all to u and it shows Im glad shes with her father and im sure Anna is proud of u I still morn Annas death she had a good heart rather she was on drugs or not and my heart still also goes out to Howard also becouse u could see the love he had for her but way to go larry and good luck to u and ur daughter may God bless both of u

He is not keeping this child away from the media. He is encouraging her to be in the media. Taking her to her mother's grave and allowing certain people to take pictures of her at the grave. Doing interviews and so forth. If he really cared that much for the child he'd allow the media frenzy to die down and let the child be raised out of the limelight.

I am glad that he is helping others. But he makes "being a single father" with "money" sound tough. he should try being a single father....without the money for a while, then we would really hear him cry!!!!!

I don't think this guy is still trying to prove himself to the public or anyone else he has passed that time ,he now has his & Anna's child he's not & doesn't have to worry about what people think. He is clearly doing this from the heart . I believe Larry is a good person I also think if there had not been a dime attached to the baby he would have fought just as hard . He even was smart enough (knowing who the father was) not to get mad & do something stupid when Stern had the baby & would not let him take her. Stern knew because he let Larry come & visit but was just praying somehow the courts would rule in his favor. Now if it were Stern I would say ya he is doing it for all the wrong reasons but Larry no .

I think this is wonderful, people are always putting the father down, Larry should have had this baby since birth. I am thrilled that he is raising his daughter.

I hope he takes the child and moves back to Louisville in relative obscurity. She needs a normal life, not a life with paparazzi chasing her. It seems he feels he must shield her to prevent them from photgraphing her eye because of her amblyopia. Very common condition and treatable and she should not be made to feel like a freak because of it.

i'm so sick of hearing about larry birkhead and how its so hard raising dannielynn.since getting this child he hasn't work a day. he like all the others are using this child for money.tell me why would you sell pictures of taking your baby to her mothers grave,that should be a very private thing but not when you can make money by selling it to magazines, so stop trying to pretend its all about the child when in fact its all about you.

How awesome is it, that's he's giving back?! And to a single parent. I think it's fantastic. Props to Birkhead for everything he's done for his baby. If only more men would step up as he has!!!!
