HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It’s time for a sneak peak at WSAZ’s Home and Garden Show.
With gas and food price eating at your budget, vendors are aware your money needs to go farther. The focus is to stretch that dollar by reinvesting in your home.
Kristy Scarberry is hoping for a good first impression. More than 40 tons of landscaping is in the Big Sandy Superstore Arena’s lobby, giving the building a special touch of indoor curb appeal. Kristy is like many merchants, more than aware money is tight. So the idea’s she offers are more true to scale.
“You can sow shrubs, trees and flowers in front of your home, the sides of your home; you’ll get every penny back,” Scarberry said.
The arena is home base for more than 120 vendors this year, indoors or out. Its consumers are doing more with less even though people are eying their budgets.
Greg Maddox says it’s paying off. “I think it’s remodeling, I really do. Instead of people building or buying new, I think they’re remodeling,” Maddox said.
Indoors appears to be the cheapest way to spruce up the place. Melanie Lindsey says many couples who work two or more jobs, just don’t have the time.
“What I’ve seen, we’ve started a home decorating service with Big Sandy. So many people are wanting help pulling things together,” Lindsey said.
And center stage to answer your questions will be home and garden expert John Marra.
"What's kinda interesting about this winter, we've had a lot of snow, a lot of rain,” Marra said. “But lets stop and think, we had drought conditions last year, so this is making up for a bit.”
"When you put your gardening out, when you put your spring plants or whatever you want there's going to be ample moisture in the ground,” Marra said.
So Kristy hopes you’re hooked and you leave thinking of ways not to just spend money, but to invest it, in your home.
“With gas prices the way they are, people are going to stay home and enjoy their yard and home and stay home, so we're hopefully going to give them something, even if it's a little corner in the back yard they can enjoy,” Scarberry said.
The Home and Garden Show starts Friday and will run through the weekend at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena. You can get tickets at the door. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.50 for folks 55 and older, $1.00 for children six to twelve and kids five and under get in free.
